Galal Yafai’s WBC and WBA flyweight title challenge against Ricardo Sandoval will take place on June 6 in Sheffield, England, it was announced today.

The fight between Sandoval and Yafai will act as chief support for the headline attraction that night: a WBC super lightweight title fight between Dalton Smith, the champion, and his mandatory challenger Alberto Puello.

Sandoval, 27-2 (18 KOs) captured his two titles via split decision in July 2025, when in Yokohama, Japan he overcame a fifth-round knockdown to defeat Kenshiro Teraji.

Yafai, meanwhile, will be returning to the ring for the first time since his controversial no-contest with Francisco Rodriguez Jr in June; a fight Yafai initially lost only for the result to be altered when it came to light that Rodriguez had failed a performance-enhancing drug test. Yafai, now 9-0 (7 KOs), will be looking to put that experience – a painful, frustrating one – behind him against Sandoval in Sheffield.
